-Active UV Defense SPF 15
-Daily Sun Defense SPF 20
-Physical UV Defense SPF 30
-Sport UV Defense SPF 45
-Ultimate UV Defense SPF 30

- Obagi Physical UV SPF 32
Our sunscreens provide true broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection. This revolutionary line contains Z-Cote, transparent zinc oxide, which protects skin from the damaging UVA rays proven to be responsible for premature signs of aging.
Unlike the pasty white zinc oxide sunscreens of the past, SkinCeuticals sunscreens are cosmetically elegant and all-encapsulated, which means increased protection using fewer sunscreen ingredients, reducing the chances of irritation.
Some common questions asked when the sun starts to shine:
Q: What Physical Sunscreen Ingredients should I look for?
A: Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide are physical sunscreen ingredients, which form a protection barrier over the skin, stopping UV rays from penetrating the skins surface. Both titanium dioxide and zinc oxide offer total UVB protection; however, zinc oxide offers far more UVA protection than titanium dioxide.
Q. How much sunscreen should be applied for full coverage and how often?
A full Shot glass size of lotion should be applied and reapplied every 90 minutes. If you go in the water reapply as soon as you dry off.
Q. How long is my sunscreen good for?
A. Sun screens only last roughly a year.

A New Approach to Acne Treatment
Dear Guest,
If you experience acne, you know how frustrating it can be to maintain control. Both adolescent and adult acne are due to changes in sebaceous glands that occur under the influence of hormones, particularly, androgens related to testosterone. Many individuals are surprised to experience acne well into adulthood, but the reality is that 20% of men and women suffer from chronic adult acne. As one of those individuals, I empathize with the difficulty of identifying an effective treatment plan. In response to this need, we are pleased to introduce a new approach to managing acne that combines both a medical and aesthetic approach to achieve great results. We understand that the severity of acne varies greatly from person to person and that treatments that work for one individual may be completely ineffective for someone else. Thats why each treatment regimen begins with a consultation with me. As a Board Certified Dermatologist, I have a decade of expertise in managing ace. This initial consultation is important to ensure that you truly have acne and not one of a number of closely related conditions which may require a different treatment regimen. Its also important to identify early signs of scarring which may necessitate a much more aggressive approach to treatment. At your initial consultation I may prescribe medications to help you achieve a faster response. Our acne package includes a series of Obagi Medical prescription strength products and a series of chemical peels that will help you maintain long-term control. We are pleased to introduce the Palomar LuxV Acne laser to maximize your results. The Palomar system dual band handpiece employs a blue spectrum of light that is absorbed by porphyrins; this destroys p. acnes bacteria to inhibit future acne breakouts. During your initial consultation a plan will be customized to your needs and implemented by a licensed aesthetician. Once you have completed your series of treaments I will prescribe a long-term plan to ensure that you keep looking great. We also offer treatments for acne scarring should that be necessary. Please call to schedule your initial consultation with me.
Warm Regards,
D. Russell Johnson M.D., Ph.D.

Thoughts About New Trends In Skin Rejuvenation
As you age, your face undergoes a number of inevitable changes. These changes are the result of three forces of time. First, your mother was right. If you glean nothing else from this article, remember this key point: when you make a face it sticks. Every facial expression is the result of movement of underlying facial muscles. When you smile, frown, grimace, grin, or pout, the resulting muscular contractions cause the skin to pleat. Over time the repeated pleating results in lines of facial expression commonly known as frown lines and smile lines. Our facial appearance also changes due to degeneration of facial structures. As we grow older we lose facial fat and bone volume. The facial fat pads and bony prominences give our face its distinctive look and keep the overlying skin supple and full. Loss of these supporting structures causes hollow areas to form and allows the skin to "sag". To top things off, our facial skin reflects changes that are the result of a misspent youth. Remember the days of sunbathing with baby oil and iodine? Damage to the skin caused by the sun is referred to as photo-damage and accounts for the majority of our aged appearance. Radiation from the sun causes DNA damage and breaks down collagen and elastic fibers in the skin. Photo-damage manifests as skin cancer, pre-cancers, changes in skin texture, and mottled discoloration of the skin including the development of prominent broken blood vessels.
Facial rejuvenation refers to the process of stopping and reversing changes to the face caused by the forces of time. Before Paris' and Lindsay's recent indiscretions, you couldn't turn on the television without being bombarded with information about the latest product or technique to make you look younger. So, what's real and what's hype? The reality is that several new products and procedures actually deliver on their promise to stop or reverse facial aging with minimal downtime.
The cornerstone of facial rejuvenation is "Do No More Harm." Spending time and money on facial cosmetic procedures makes absolutely no sense unless you are taking reasonable measures to prevent further damage. Sunscreen and sun-protective clothing are critical to reduce ongoing damage. The benefits of most cosmetic procedures will be undone by careless sun exposure. You say you live in Washington and that you've heard of the legend of the sun, but you don't fully believe that it exists? Unfortunately, ultraviolet radiation from the sun penetrates clouds. A false sense of security may explain why women in Washington have the highest rate of melanoma in the United States. The bottom line is that it's never too late to take precautions against unnecessary sun exposure.
Minimally invasive facial rejuvenation became a reality with the FDA approval of Botox for the treatment of frown lines in 2002. Today, treatment with Botox is the most popular cosmetic operation in the United States. Botox relaxes hyperactive facial muscles and reduces pleating of the skin. The result is a more relaxed and youthful appearance. With an understanding of facial musculature, Botox may be used to sculpt facial features, eliminating unwanted wrinkles and lines.
Loss of facial volume caused by loss of fat and bone has traditionally been addressed by the surgical face lift. This tightens the skin, but is expensive, involves a prolonged recovery, and may create an unnaturally tight appearance. Another option is to restore the lost volume with a group of products called dermal fillers. The latest generation dermal fillers have enhanced longevity, some lasting up to two years. Fillers may be used to restore fullness to the lips, decrease prominent nasolabial folds, lift "jowls", and plump up sagging cheeks. Three major categories of fillers are used today, Hyaluronic acid products such as Restylane and Juviderm, Radiesse (calcium hydroxyappetite), and Sculptra (poly-L-lactic acid). All are derived from naturally occurring substances and are consequently well tolerated. Radiesse and Sculptra actually stimulate collagen production, providing a longer lasting result. Optimal enhancement depends on selecting the appropriate filler or combination of fillers based on your desired result.
Perhaps the greatest advance in minimal downtime facial rejuvenation is the revolution in light based therapy designed to reverse photo-damage. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) targets broken blood vessels and pigmented lesions. Not all IPLs are created equal. High energy IPL is necessary to ensure good results. We are the only office in north Puget Sound to offer treatment with the Palomar StarLux IPL; the same system used at the University of Washington. The promise of light based treatment has only recently been fully realized with the introduction of fractional resurfacing. The Palomar Lux 1540 fractional laser smoothes fine lines and wrinkles and improves skin discoloration without the downtime associated with other skin resurfacing technologies. The fractional laser delivers light in an array of microbeams to the skin. These microbeams penetrate well below the epidermis and into the dermis, sparing the tissue surrounding the beams from damage. The tissue within these beams initiates a natural healing process that accelerates the formation of new, healthy tissue and the fractional treatment of the skin allows for faster healing with visible results in skin color, texture, tone, fine lines and wrinkles.
Confused? Facial rejuvenation is a very attainable process, but it's not simple. Getting good results requires selecting the appropriate procedures for you. Your face is unique. A cookie cutter approach to cosmetic procedures is a recipe for disappointment. It's important to work with an integrated group of professionals to translate your desires into an achievable goal.
